Advantages of studying in BITS and faq on it

For Prospective Students
  • When did BITS Pilani start the MBA Program?

BITS had a MBA program since 1971. After overall restructuring of our educational system, it was re-organized into MMS (Master of Management) program. Discussions took place in 2006 and BITS reverted to the MBA program which is a full 2 year master’s degree in management.

  • What is the eligibility criterion for the program?

The minimum eligibility is a first degree B.E/B.Tech or an equivalent BITS degree. An Equivalent BITS degree is any first degree from BITS (BE (hons), or Msc (tech) programs.)

  • What is the selection procedure for the program?

The selection criterion followed includes an all India BITS higher degree online exam followed by a group discussion and interview.

  • Can students from Arts and Science background participate in the program?

No. Arts and Science students from other institutions cannot participate in the program.

  • If I am a Msc degree holder, can I apply for the course?

This is a technical MBA. So the qualification would be a technical first/higher degree.

  • What are the specializations offered in the program?

BITS has flexibilities in its system for the students. Students can attend any course they are interested in. The degree therefore does not have any specialization along with it. There are two streams and many functional areas where students can specialize.

  • Are there specializations like Finance, Marketing, and HR etc?

There are no such specializations offered in BITS but the flexibility associated with BITS enables students to take courses from finance, economics, marketing streams that are available. During the second year, there are four electives where in the students can choose finance, marketing electives which are offered with the other electives.

  • When are applications for admissions invited?

The admissions are held once a year and notification is released during the month of April. The online exam is usually around the third week of June. The classes begin from 1st of August.

  • What is the probable number of student intake each year and how many students are given interview calls?

We are planning an intake of around 60. The ratio of calls given to seats available is variable and a broad range of this ratio is 5:1 to 10:1

What is the fee structure for the course?

The MBA Program at BITS pilani is highly economical as BITS Pilani believes in “Education for Economic Advantage” The fee for 2008-09 is 30000 tuition fee per semester and hostel fee of 1000 per semester. For recent fee structure visit www.bitsadmission.com

  • Are there summer internships associated with the course?

There is a practice school program which is a form of internship where students are placed in firms across the country by the Institute’s practice school division for about 6 months which is a part of the curriculum during the last semester. Students may also take up summer internships after first year in the Industry as well as academia. The students are optionally allowed to opt for paid co-instructor positions at Industries across the country.

  • What is the placement record for MBA?

The Management Group has been running Masters in Management (MMS) Program since more than 3 decades with almost 100% placements allthrough. We revived the MBA Program in 2006 and first batch was fully placed with attractive offers from reputed firms like Morgan Stanley, BSC, Delloite, Oracle, Citizen, and JP Morgan Chase etc. The statistics for the next placements are yet to arrive. To know more or recruit BITS Pilani MBA’s visit recruitment page here

  • Are all students required to live in hostels?

The BITS Pilani campus has an excellent academic environment and all the students are generally supposed to live on campus.

JMET qualified candidates may contact the management departments/schools of the concerned institutes for additional information, if any. TIPS FOR GATE BEGGINERS( MTECH IN IIT)

About GATE Examination: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master's degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master's degree in Engineering /Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy, who may be seeking scholarship/ assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

Some institutions specify GATE as the mandatory qualification even for admission of self-financing students to postgraduate programmes. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Some government organizations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement for applying to the post of a Scientist / Engineer.

Development of Basic Knowledge is Important

As we all know the success in any field depends on dedicated practice and good efforts to achieve the desired results. Particularly, when it comes to education students should put their dedicated effort to get the fruit of success. Almost all the students taking up the GATE exam wish to score good marks and get admission in top rated institutions in India for continuing their higher education. Some tips for succeeding in the GATE exam are given below:

Basically, GATE exam tests the basic knowledge of the students in subjects like Mathematics, physics and chemistry. Most of the questions are based on the fundamentals. Preparing for GATE exam is a
continuousprocess and it should happen in stages. First, make yourself strong in the fundamentals and test yourself on those fundamentals.

Important in Self Preparation

If the students wish to prepare themselves for GATE exam without going for any coaching classes they can use the following tips:

* Practice with the help of previous year question papers.

* Solve more and more problems.

* Refer at least five books for each subject; this will be helpful for widening your knowledge in the subject.

* Note down necessary formulae and theory and refer it every now and then.

* Attend self-assessment tests being conducted free of cost by different websites.

* Get the help of some experts in the subjects in case of any doubt
